Gondar Tourism Office in collaboration with tourism Ethiopia had Managed to bring the Gondar castles back to life by presenting visitors the feel and the look of What life in the medieval castles of Gondar once looked like. Visitors will get a chance to see the Day to day life’s of the monarchy, the soldiers,Azmaries( Entertainers ) , servants and the general operation of its period. The Display is intended to add special Flavor to Timket /Epiphany ceremony in Gondar which will be colorfully celebrated from January 19 to January 21.

During the Ethiopian Medieval time this Castles Of Gondar were full of life, bustle and noise and crowded with lords, knights, servants, soldiers and entertainers. In times of war and siege they were exciting and dangerous places, but they were homes as well as fortresses.

Visitors of the castle now will not just buy their entrance ticket and enter the Fasiledes enclosure as before

Once you reach the gates of the Royal Enclosure ,Young men Dressed and armored to resemble as guards of The Emperor Fasiledes, asks you why You came to the palace in a polite and Assertive manner before granting you to pass through the gate. once past the gates the guards hand you over to the chamberlain.

After The chamberlain tells you about the order and formalities of the royal palace, he leads you to the first floor where the king receives guests. On the way you pass through the King’s Guards wearing a suit of armor that resembles armors of the past.

Inside the second floor(The Kings chamber) the king with his army and ,the queen with her lady of the bedchamber sit on a throne. The chamberlain present the you to the king and lead you to the dining and sleeping quarter of the castles to see how ladies of the bed chamber prepare traditional Ethiopian foods and drinks to the palace guests.

The chamberlain then leads You around the royal compound taking you to king Dawit’s singing and dancing hall where traditional Ethiopian music and shoulder dance is played. After the entertainment you will be taken to emperor Bekafas banquet hall to taste Ethiopian Traditional Dishes and alcoholic drinks while the chamberlain explains to you from what they are made of in the context of the overall Ethiopian culture

This new Display of the royal enclosure of Fasildes ,involving 150 young people, will be available on a daily basis from January 13 until the morning of January 19,the Eve the biggest religious Festival,Timket.
